Culture Night at Highlanes Gallery

Culture Night at Highlanes gallery has something for everyone. Whether its live music, workshops or food tasting, they have it all. 

  • Drop in Family Workshop

Using the FNCI Embracing Vision and Caoimhin Gaffney’s All at Once Collapsing Together exhibitions as starting points, in this drop in workshop you will explore nature and environment around us – land , wildlife, water, insects and plants.

 You will experiment with different art mediums like watercolours, mixed media ,collage, drawing and painting.

 At the end of the whole session, Nela will collect and connect your artworks becoming a new collaborative work.

 The Taster Session is Free for Culture Night with no booking required.

 All materials are supplied. 

Please note, this is not a drop-off workshop, and designed for all the family.

  • Tasting Plates at the Five Good Things Café

If you’re planning a busy social evening this Culture Night, and need some food fuel, Five Good Things Café have delectable Tasting Plates made by Chef Brendan for you to take a pit-stop and enjoy with a complimentary glass of wine.

Served between 6.00pm and 7.15pm, book for your friends/family and take a seat and indulge in the café, before enjoying the rest of Culture Night with perhaps a visit to the gallery for the Boyne Trad Fest Session at 6.30pm, or the Gallery Lecture with Terry Trench, on the work of his mother, co-founder of the Collection, Bea Orpen at 7.30pm.

  • Boyne Tradfest Recital

Set within Embracing Vision: FNCI 100 Years, we are delighted to welcome Boyne Tradfest return this year with an Irish Traditional Music Recital performed by Martha Guiney (flute) and Ruairí Cunnane (guitar).

 Martha Guiney, winner of BBC NI/Arts Council NI Young Musicians’ Platform Award, released her debut album, ‘The Raven’s Call’ in February 2023. The award winning County Down flute and whistle player has toured internationally and collaborated with many renowned artists in Scotland, Denmark, Finland, South Korea, Norway, Brazil, Italy, the US and beyond

Ruairí Cunnane is a widely sought after guitarist, singer and bouzouki player from Meigh, County Armagh. Ruairí has been immersed in the folk scene right from childhood through his father Mickey’s inspiring vocals and guitar playing. His music, while mainly rooted in traditional/folk, can incorporate elements of blues and rock, creating an appealing mix of sounds which makes his playing distinctive.
